Yes, I decided to bin the kit. I cut out the resin bits to use in the future, maybe. So…why bin it?
When I inserted the leading edge pieces I got one them misaligned. Cyanoacrylate being, well, superglue I was unable to realign it to the kit leading edge. Solution? Take a bit of de-bonder and weaken the bond so that I can adjust it, let the de-bonder gas off, and with the insert in the correct orientation, add some thin superglue.
Well, that plan didn’t work out too well. The de-bonder attacked the kit plastic. It softened and started to fall apart. First where the superglue was and then eventually other locations that the de-bonder got to.
I could save the fuselage but I need a new wing. I haven’t been able to find an Academy Tempest V at any shows but I’ll keep looking. There should be plenty out there as I remember seeing them in the past at show prices (less than $10). When I find one I’ll decide whether to salvage the fuselage.
Thanks for looking…
