Hawker Typhoon Ib, RB281/5V-X, 439 Squadron RCAF, Northern Europe, February 1945
I’ve waited for quite a long time to build more Tiffies because there just were not any easy kits out there that also were reasonably accurate and detailed. I’ve got the Brendan kits but I’ve yet to start them as they are bit more “limited run” than I’d prefer.
The Subject
Typhoon Ib 5V-X represents a typical machine in 2TAF operating in Northern Europe in 1945. This happens to be a 438 Squadron RCAF aircraft carrying bombs — Typhoons were divided into bomb or rocket projectile units to ensure proficiency and maximize logistics.
This aircraft was flown only for a short time between January and March 1945, having been delivered in late December and crashed in March then written off post war. The pilot was Hugh Fraser who claimed 2 FW-190 on 1 January 1945 and a Me-262 in February.
Markings are typical for 1945 — no more black and white identification stripes and the wing upper roundels are sporting white and yellow.
The Model
This was a straightforward build with no undue issues. Frankly any modeler should have no difficulties with this kit. It did not take me long as I remember starting and finishing in just a handful of weeks, which is quick for me.
Summary
I need to tackle my Brengun stash as a batch build and my collection Typhoon’s will be completed.
