I like Group Builds. You know, the kind where a group of modelers agree on a topic, kit, or what have you and then you all feverishly build a model that meets the criteria. It’s a great excuse to actually build a model. But what happens when your inner dog starts chasing too many of these squirrels? Well, there’s a Red & Rover comic where Rover is frozen but his head keeps swiveling about trying to decide which squirrel is ”next”.
At last count, I have 35 kits in a ”work in progress” state. Most of them are (okay, all of them) can be tied to some group build. Such as my SBD-1 conversion (Hasegawa + Starfighter resin nose) for the “Big Mac” — Anything by McDonnell-Douglas or the original parents, McDonnel or Douglas — Group Build back in 2017.
But that got sidelined by the 1/28 Revell Biplane group build (which I finished) as well as at least 7 other group builds as I browse my photos…
So what’s a modeler to do? Well, just build something!
Lately I’m finishing 2 in my WIP for each new model I start. I have to say, it’s hard, HARD I say.
Glue some plastic together and slap some paint on it. An hour a day.
