T-38A, N911NA, NASA, 1960’s
This is the ancient Hasegawa kit, originally released in 1967. I purchased this kit as a new boxing in the early 80’s and remember building it when we lived on base at NAS Lemoore shortly after buying it.
It is a simple kit, there is no cockpit per se, and if there ever were seats for it, I’ve long lost those. My desire was to use the beautiful NASA decals I also purchased at the same time at some store in San Jose.
This was a weekend kit, typical for my style at the time. Details were less important than simply finishing the kit, painting it and getting decals on.
One key thing I remember about this build is using rattle can white from the auto-hobby shop on base. It wiped out most of the raised details but that did not bother me at the time. I don’t recommend using DIY store rattle cans and it just so happens neither does Model Geek D-Ran.
Next time I come across the Sword T-38 Talon kit, I’ll pick one up as this kit needs to be replaced on my shelf, between the peeling decals and awful results to begin with, it’s just a bit of my history now.
