Tamiya 1/700 waterline
While building and painting the model I considered how I wanted to display the model. I initially wanted it on an ocean scene on a nice wooden base but when I started measuring quickly realized it would be very large and take a considerable area of my display shelf. I settled on an ocean scene but no longer on a wooden base. My waterline scene starter is foam sandwiched in poster board. Generally inexpensive at my local art store and I can get quite a few scenes on one board.
I sat the model on the board and measured out a decent amount of area around the model, marked it and cut it. Then I started painting. I should have picked up a rattle can but decided to use the airbrush…the base color is Tamiya XF-17 Flat Sea Blue which has a greenish tinge. I used all I had. I then sprayed a stronger blue over it to tone down the green and darken the color. I was stationed at Yokosuka, Japan back in the ’90s and the seas just off Japan in that area are quite deep and very blue.
Once dry I then applied Master’s Touch Gloss Gel acrylic medium and created the bow wave, second bow wave and the churn aft of the ship from her screws. This gel dries glossy and is easy to work with.

Nothing special and I’ll add more once this is cured in a few days. As it cures the thinner areas will cure clear and the thicker areas a bit more opaque. The blue undercoat gives it depth.
Thanks for looking…
